A residence permit or visa alone is no longer sufficient for lawful employment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Why Did the Law Change?<\/h2>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s labour market was previously relatively open. The 2026 reform addresses this in three directions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Priority for local candidates<\/li>\n<li>Financial transparency<\/li>\n<li>Controlled labour migration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Who Is Affected?<\/h2>\n<p>The new regulation applies to all foreign nationals performing any paid activity in Georgia \u2014 office-based, remote, as an individual entrepreneur (IE), or freelance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u26a0\u00a0 A valid residence permit or visa is no longer a standalone legal basis for carrying out paid work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>5 Key Changes<\/h2>\n<p><strong>01\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Mandatory Work Authorisation\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0 <\/strong>Before starting any paid activity, a foreign national must obtain the right to carry out labour activity from the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>02\u00a0 <\/strong><strong>Market Test\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0 <\/strong>The employer must advertise the vacancy for at least 10 working days on worknet.moh.gov.ge.
